Norwei is the continual music project of David Dickson, hip-hop and electronica producer, musician, and pianist.
I am obsessed with synthesizers and have a keyboard collection that includes gems like a late ‘70s Rhodes piano and an Ensoniq Fizmo, the first synthesizer to use wave-table synthesis. Consequently, my music tends to be heavy on atmosphere and haze. I strive for a sound that is equal parts Isley Brothers and Boards of Canada.
In 2016, I served alongside producer, Chris Labella, as executive producer for the debut album of Trapo, Shade Trees, which garnered national attention and earned a spot on Pigeon and Planes’ “Top 50 Albums of 2016.” Also in 2016, I co-produced the tracks “Comfortable,” and “Girls Like You,” on Ra’Shaun’s debut album Kolors, “Adult Drinks,” by Rich Robbins, and numerous others with Madison’s hugely talented pool of rap artists.
Before all of that hip-hop producing, I played in the indie synth pop band now based out of Austin, TX, Oh My Love, and co-produced songs such as “Spark,” “ChaChaCha,” and “Foolish Wait”. While in the band, in addition to recording a Daytrotter session, I was nominated “Keyboardist of the Year” by Madison’s MAMA organization in 2015.
I continue to play live shows consisting of my own instrumental outer space RnB songs laden with atmosphere, haze, and an abundance of synthesizer solos. Look for new music in the evening hours of 2017.
